MEETING CALLED TO ORDER: At 6:00 P.M..

GUEST: Dave Sams and Brandon Fox. SEPTEMBER 2018 BOARD MINUTES: Unanimously approved as written. TREASURERS REPORT –Wayne Dockery/Wayne Klippenstein: Revenue and Expenses are under control. $47.00 deficit on the Senior Tournament. Christmas Party budget and planning. Membership funds received during the remaining year will be treated as 2019 income. Wayne Klippenstein will be added as a signatory to the checking and savings accounts. Resolution to be prepared by the Secretary.
MEMBERSHIP – Ed Sayer/Steve Duffy: To date, 304 Regular Members & 218 Brookside/245 SCGA Associate Members have renewed their 2018/2019 BMGC Membership. Profit Ratio for new members is $114, Brookside associates $24, and SCGA associates $14.
HANDICAP COMMITTEE – Randy Gottlieb: Handicap Meeting was held today. Peer Review. No penalty rounds have been issued this year. TOURNAMENTS – Scott Anderson/Rob Moore: Presidents Cup has 54 players with 4 flights, with 7/6 payout slots, and everyone will play to L.I. Brookside Senior Tournament to be held on October 28, current index to be used. SCGA REPORT –Art Longoria: SCGA Annual Meeting to be held at Brookside on October 30. Wayne Dockery will attend the meeting in place of Art Longoria. 3 or 4 other Directors will attend the meeting as well. RULES & COMPETITION/ENTERTAINMENT– Vic Buxton: USGA . Webinars on rules. Brookside Local Rules and Scorecards will need to be modified. The wash area of the course will be a no-play zone. OUT OF TOWNER–Bob Baumann: Christmas Out of Towner scheduled for December 27, cost is $87. BMGC WEB SITE--Maurice Mischook: No Report. SCGA TEAM PLAY--Randy Gottlieb: Team Play commences January 17/19, 2019. Three teams set to compete, each with $250 entry fee, and all dates have been set. GREENS COMMITTEE-- Rob Moore/Randy Gottlieb: RBOC is planning to have at least 25 events in 2019. Aeration will occur twice in 2019. Pro Shop will be closed after June 2019. OLD/NEW BUSINESS: Resolution passed and carried authorizing theSCGA to extend a $25.00 discount, instead of the $5.00 discount, on first year Regular Membership, to any prospective member responding to the SCGA follow-up e-mail survey.

TREASURERS REPORT –Wayne Dockery/Wayne Klippenstein: Revenues and Expenses are in line with the annual budget. Pasadena City Championship sustained a loss for the event. Christmas Party costs. MEMBERSHIP – Ed Sayer/Steve Duffy: To date, 300 Regular Members & 215 Brookside/233 SCGA Associate Members have renewed their 2018 BMGC Membership. HANDICAP COMMITTEE – Randy Gottlieb: Peer Review. Sterling Hills Golf Course posting problems. TOURNAMENTS – Scott Anderson/Rob Moore: American Gift Cards will be used as pay-outs for the September Tournament. President Cup will be individual format, LI or Club Index, with gross and net pay-outs. Pasadena Seniors will have four flights. Brookside Seniors moved from October 21 to the 28. SCGA REPORT –Art Longoria: Guest Membership is well under way. Rules Seminar to be held at Brookside Golf Course on Tuesday, January 29, 2019, at 8:30am. No fee if a Club Official. Seminar conducted by the SCGA. RULES & COMPETITION/ENTERTAINMENT– Vic Buxton: No Report. Jim Giles, Gary Baker, Scott Anderson and Vic Buxton will attend a 4 Day USGA workshop in September on the new Rules of Golf. Vic will provide a brief presentation on the new Rules at the Regular Membership Meeting on Tuesday, November 14th. OUT OF TOWNER–Bob Baumann: Sterling Hills had 44 players and two guests. Budget Report for event will be available at the next meeting. Christmas Out of Towner will be on Thursday, December 27. Shotgun start. BOARD MEETING: APRIL 3, 2018 MINUTES OF MEETING: At MEETING CALLED TO ORDER: At 6:10 PM. FEBRUARY 2018 BOARD MINUTES: Unanimously approved as written. TREASURERS REPORT –Wayne Dockery/Wayne Klippenstein: Short Fall forecasted for, but other indicators show that we will be fine. The tournament has been doing a fine job of paying out less than the full amount allocated in the tournaments. MEMBERSHIP – Ed Sayer/Steve Duffy: A few new members have trickled in and we are getting closer to our budgeted numbers. Regular BMGC Members = 286 Club Members = 11 Only - 4 have paid BMGC Associate Members = 185 SCGA Associate Members = 203 HANDICAP COMMITTEE – Randy Gottlieb: Randy reported that some players are late in posting … a Handicap meeting will be held next week. TOURNAMENTS – Scott Anderson/Rob The Tournament Committee (TC) consists of the following members: Scott Anderson, Rob Moore, Robert Tom, Scott reported SCGA 4-Ball has be extended through Sat. 4/29. 4 teams remain… April’s tournaments have 30 & 31 players respectively, tee times are at 8:45am on Course #1. A meeting will be scheduled with the RBOC about upcoming conflicts to discuss the changes that are coming to the Rose Bowl and that will affect the golf course… some 50 events this year.

There was no meeting in January 2018 TREASURERS REPORT –Wayne Dockery/Wayne Klippenstein: The year end 2017 financials were reviewed. The 2018 BMGC budget was presented and approved. W. Dockery noted 2017 was one of the better financial years since 1985 due to the anonymous gift and the RBOC funds from the PCC. The Board reviewed the Fiscal Report both labilities and the income for 2018. MEMBERSHIP – Ed Sayer/Steve Duffy: To date: · Regular BMGC Members = 286 = 277 + 9 Club Members · BMGC Associate Members = 182 · SCGA BMGC Associate Members = 195 There were several BMGC long standing members that have not signed for 2018, the Membership Committee will reach out to those members. Attendance for the associates was lower than expected at the December Holiday party; 1 attended the lunch and 3 played in the tournament. The board is still looking for ways to improve the membership, especially the associates and SCGA BMGC associates, to encourage membership. HANDICAP COMMITTEE (HC) – Randy Gottlieb: The HC meet 2/13/18 at 530 PM Brookside Golf Course, Pasadena, CA. The HC audited the postings for the Dec and January tournaments, there were no findings. The weekly skins game are also being reviewed by the HC. The HC reached out to the members who did not post to discuss their reasons for not posting. As a result there were some penalty rounds assessed for the Dec 17 Skins games. The use of using the LA Golf “Club Index” to for use in BMGC was discussed. The Board agreed that HC would review the Modified Stableford scores to see how a Club Index would apply. The results will be reviewed at the next board meeting. If the board found the Club Index to be a beneficial tool to monitor club member’s handicaps, the HC would draft an explanation to the Membership on how the Club Index would be put into effect and discussed at an open board meeting. TOURNAMENTS – Scott Anderson/Rob Moore: The Tournament Committee (TC) are the following Scott Anderson, Rob Moore, Robert Tom, Bob Baumann, Vic Buxton, Ben Henley, Ed Kelly and Wayne Klippenstein. The February tournament is a Modified Stableford on Friday 2/16/18 and Sunday 2/18/18. The format and other tournament information have been posted on the website and email notification to the membership has been sent out. Handicaps below “0” will play at a “0” handicap. The tournament committee meet on 2/6/18 at 6:05 PM, Brookside Golf Course, Pasadena, CA Provided are the key outcomes: · The 2018 tournament events are posted on the web page. · The March 4 ball event will occur over consecutive weekends. The board noted that there is a concern of the impact to members still competing in the SCGA team play event. · The TC added a new tournament format to 2018; the red/white and blue in place of the 4 ball May event. · The 2018 December events – Members will be allowed to play in both events, Fri tournament and the Sat/Sun tournament. · There will be 2 events that the prize money will be American Golf (AG) gifts cards that can be used at AG locations or in the Brookside restaurant. · Discussed pay outs and agreed on the formula for the payout. · Most events will be limited to one gross payout in each flight. · The 4 events will be played as low index; President/Club and Class/Tournament of Champions/SCGA 4-ball qualifier · The committee discussed if the seniors needs to be at 55 or 50 age for the cut off. The SCGA requires 55 and older. BMGC allows down to age 50. The committee is to review the data and discuss the impacts to the change. · All BMGC members who play in the tournament will be required to post their scores. Posting must be made no later than Midnight of the day of the event. If a member does not have access (Pro shop closed/No computer at home/ etc.) they will be responsible to inform the tournament committee and request they post for them. SCGA REPORT –Art Longoria: No status RULES & COMPETITION/ENTERTAINMENT– Vic Buxton: Vic will be attending the rules class fall of 18 in Las Vegas. Vic completed the SCGA training on bullying and sexual harassment. There is a plan to hold a 4 club tournament during the summer, will likely be July or August with an open BMGC membership meeting to follow. OUT OF TOWNER–Bob Baumann: The reschedule of the Ojai Out-of-Towner still being discussed. The course was impacted by the recent fires and the course conditions were affected. The current plan is April. American Golf informed Bob that for the Wed and Sun Skins games, they will only allow 30 days in advance. The current plan for 2018 is 3 Out-of-Towners. BMGC WEB SITE--Maurice Mischook/Ed Sayer: Web site is up to date. February and March events are on the web site. No noted issues with the posting system, Posting Computer is now hard wired. SCGA TEAM PLAY—Randy Gottlieb: The BMGC Thursday cardinal team was undefeated. Saturday Gold team was 3-2-1. Saturday cardinal team was 2-3-1. GREENS COMMITTEE-- Randy Gottlieb: Discussed the condition of the course, the focus being the fairways. Due to the dormant conditions and American Golf limited watering, the BMGC should expect the same conditions in the next couple of weeks until there is warmer weather. The RBOC is still moving the BMGC schedule tournament events due to the RBOC scheduling large events that need access to the golf course(s). Randy to review if there is any legal action the BMGC could take when the BMGC scheduled events are moved. Treasurers Report – Projected year to date 2016 budget surplus of $1.2k which is much better than the original projection of the budgeted $12,000 deficit. Good job by the Tournament Committee and other board members in saving club funds when able. Final year-end figures to be given after the December Out of Towner. Membership – K. Miller. To date – 150 Regular members & 50 Associates have renewed their 2017 BMGC Membership. After January 2017 the SCGA website renewal portal will allow for a full calendar year renewal as of the member’s renewal date. Therefore, we may expect a lapse in memberships. It is important to let BMGC members know that their GHIN number will be inactive, they will not be able to post scores nor receive their GHIN Revision Index until they renew. We will face a challenge with the 2018 renewal process. Ken had decided not to run for a board position, thus his position must be filled. However, Ken has graciously agreed to stay on for three months into 2017 so that he can help the new Membership Chairman with the transition. Handicap Committee – S. Anderson, The Committee meeting will meet on December 13, to determine some Team Play matters. Tournaments – R. Moore, The 2-Day, 2-Man Christmas Classic and Friday Low Gross / low Net will take place Dec 17 & 18 and Dec 16th. 13 Teams & 8 Singles are signed up for the 2 Day event. The annual BMGC Christmas Party will take place on the Clubhouse patio following the Saturday round. Friday tournament players are invited to attend. SCGA –A. The LA GOLF renewal portal was turned off by the membership chairman, but he was asked to re-instate it so that our current members could have another avenue to renew. Now we have several methods for all that want to renew and want to join the BMGC. The membership chairman decided not to run for a board position, thus his position must be filled. But, he has agreed to stay on and help the new Membership chairman. Handicap Committee – S. Anderson, The Committee meeting will be December 13, to determine some Team Play matters. Tournaments – R. Moore, The Turkey Shoot will be held on the 18 & 20th. Course 1 both days. Winners of each flight will be eligible for the Tournament of Champions. Associate member benefits will now include: Associates can sign up for one regular BMGC tournament, a Roger Dunn discount card, discount green fee card for $20, Associates can convert into a regular membership, no voting privileges and cannot be a BMGC Board member. Essentially the Pro Shop has been maintaining high balances for BMGC members wining “scripts” for a long period of time. They are requesting the BMGC Boards assistance to bring these balances down to a manageable level as there are 22 BMGC members with balances over $500. After a prolonged discussion, it is apparent that our membership needs to use up their “scripts” and can no longer consider it as a “savings plan”. Randy then proposed that he and Ken Miller send a letter / email to these specific 22 members requesting that their balances be used up or reduced as soon as possible. Other Business: John Wells Pro Shop – May 6, 2016 Letter distributed and discussed. Essentially the Pro Shop has been maintaining high balances for BMGC members wining “scripts” for a long period of time. They are requesting the BMGC Boards assistance to bring these balances down to a manageable level, $500 each member by the end of 2016 and $100 by the end of 2017. After a prolonged discussion, Randy asked each Board member to provide their own comments and specific suggestions by email prior to the next meeting in hope that we can come to an overall resolution. We plan to ask Tim Terwilliger to attend the July meeting to present our recommendation. A motion was made by Ed Kelly to revise the BMGC By-Laws to amend the requirement for four Regular membership meetings per year. Attendance has been minimal due to the BMGC website becoming the main source of club member communications and Tournament sign-up capability. After a discussion a revised motion was made by Art Longoria and then seconded by several Board members, to amend the BMGC By-Laws to “eliminate the 4 annual meeting requirement and replace it with wording that states the BMGC Regular membership meetings will be scheduled at the discretion of the Board”. Treasurer’s Report –W. Dockery. End of February, 2016 we are over budget by $9.1k. Including additional $2.3k funds delivered tonight by Membership. Key expenses to date have been to SCGA, and Team Play. The First Tee of Pasadena Gala table sponsorship will be deducted as a Charity expense
Membership –K. Miller, current membership #s - 338 regular members / 131 Associates, Budgeted 2016 for 390 / 160. Ken made a recommendation to begin utilizing the SCGA website for membership renewal & processing. SCGA would deduct their renewal dues plus a 3% processing charge which could make it more beneficial than the current LA Golf club renewal processing. Ken further recommended that we offer a $200 fee to join until June 1st with their 1st BMGC tournament free and then $150 thereafter for 2016 membership, $60 Associate fee. Motion Passed
Dave Sams, GM of RBOC was in attendance as a guest. Dave mentioned that BMGC residents of Pasadena are needed to be in front of the RBOC and the Pasadena City Council to represent the interests of the BMGC and golfers of Brookside. The RBOC meets the First Thursday of every month at 6:30 PM. He encouraged our membership to:
- Continue supporting the First Tee of Pasadena. It was the members of BMGC that gave the First Tee it’s much needed support in 2005.
- The City Council looks at “At Risk Youth” programs with priority.
- The $5 surcharge rom BMGC members helped create the First Tee of Pasadena.

Rules & Competition– Vic Buxton, Rules workshop held last month in San Diego. Three people from BMGC & Pasadena City attended. BMGC well represented.
SCGA –A. Longoria, 2016 LA Golf Show held on Sat & Sun Feb 27 & 28 at the Los Angeles Convention Center, Downtown. Very few people attended on Saturday. Sunday a little busier. SCGA signed up 480 people. Too many other clubs were there. Not much incentive to join individual clubs.
Out of Towner –B. Baumann – 2016’s first Out of Towner will be an exciting event. Wednesday, April 20th at Oak Quarry GC. $65 incl. cart & Lunch. We should expect a big turnout.

Greens Committee – R. Gottlieb, an interim greenkeeper from SD has been hired. Practice Range renovation to be completed soon. An additional 200 tons to be added to make a total of 400 tons that will fill all two course’s greenside bunkers. Trees will be pruned. Course rough to be cut 1 ¼” Course #1, 1 ½” Course #2. June 7-9, 3 Soccer days. Expect sell outs. The Non-Potable water initiative has passed the Pasadena City Council, $18-$20 million will be used for recycled water pump station and piping. The Clubhouse restaurant will be redesigned with a new BBQ area. 33% less water usage from previous year.

Approx. $83k total assets from year end 2015, $67.3k income / $63.1 expenses for a $4,151.39 surplus. A recommendation was made to consider using the 2015 surplus towards a membership drive. We will reconsider with the rest of the Board members input.
Handicap Committee – No Report
Tournaments –R. Moore, Friday & Sunday Feb. 12 will be a Modified Stableford. The Sunday Feb 14 tournament will be rescheduled to Feb 21 due to Valentine’s Day and low # of registrants. The Tournament of Champions that was rained out on Jan 31 will be rescheduled on March 20. March Tournaments will be a Shamble format on Course #2. Club & Class has been rescheduled for another June date- Sat & sun June 25 & 26.
The First Tee of Pasadena will have their 10th Anniversary celebration at the Rose Bowl. $250 for a table of 10.

Treasurer’s Report –W. Dockery. As of 12/31/15 we have a surplus of $5,263. We saved on every expense line item for the year. We will address a more generous charitable contribution in 2016 rather than amend 2015 results. BMGC President, Randy Gottlieb, acknowledged a job well done by our Treasurer, Wayne Dockery. The 2016 BMGC Budget was approved at our December Board dinner with a $5.5k deficit.
Tournaments –R. Moore, Friday & Sunday Jan. 15 & 17. Low Gross/ Low Net, 45 signed up for Friday, 43 for Sunday. Jan 31st, Tournament of Champions coming up. The list of 2015 tournament Champions will be posted shortly.
Membership – K. Miller, 321 regular members / 117 Associates, Budgeted for 390 / 160. Ken is still receiving 2016 Membership renewal forms. Dues can still be paid online.
The SCGA website has the capability to renew our memberships. Fees are cheaper than LA Golf, activation / de-activation is easier. Ken recommends that we input our new members on the SCGA website. A motion was passed to begin using the SCGA website for regular / associate renewal memberships.
Handicap Committee – S. Anderson, Handicap Committee met this evening. In 2015 there were 51 penalty rounds issued, down from previous years. The BMGC Tournament Committee has been and will continue to adjust BMGC members handicaps in BMGC tournaments as the committee deems fit to promote fair competition.
Team Play – R. Gottlieb, In 2016 BMGC will have two Saturday & one Thursday team. Team Captains - Cardinal Team, Rob Moore / Gold Team, Daryl Parker & Maurice Mischook, Thursday team, Scott Anderson. 2016 season begins this week. Tee Times and Practice Rounds have been set. Brookside has won two championships in 35 years. It’s time to win another!
Rules & Competition– Vic Buxton, New Board member and new Rules & Competition Chairman. BMGC President, Randy Gottlieb welcomed Vis to the Board. This year we have four important rule changes including the putter anchoring ban. Members should pay attention to the rule changes affecting, amateur status, use of unusual devices (alignment sticks), ball moving at address, signing an incorrect scorecard and the anchoring ban. Vic discussed the overall Rules have 40 new decisions and over 100 revised decisions. Many rule changes for 2016 so each member should review the new USGA Rule book.
Vic will revise & update the Brookside Local Rules and place them in the Starters shack and on the Brookside Scorecards.

Treasurer’s Report –W. Dockery. We are now projected to breakeven for the year. We expect to stay within budget as we are saving on Christmas Party and Tournament expenses, especially the Presidents Cup. Not one expense item is over budget. Additional expense items for 2015, besides tournaments and year end party are 2016 Rules Workshop registration fees. We expect to finish 2015 in the Black!
Election Committee – E. Kelly, 5 Board Candidates are running for the 4 open Board positions. Elections via email are now closed and additional voting will take place at tonight’s Membership meeting. The 2016 Board will be announced this evening.

It was noted that Scott Anderson represented himself and the Brookside Club very well at the SCGA annual dinner in accepting the Don Carlson award for Handicap Chairperson of the Year Award.
Tournaments –R. Moore, Friday & Sunday Turkey Shoot coming up, Nov. 13 & 15. As is custom, a $25 Ralph’s gift cards to be awarded to most of the field. The 2 day Christmas Classic will be coming up on Dec. 12 & 13, Saturday 8:00 am shotgun start to be followed by a buffet lunch. Spouse or Guest welcome to attend at no charge. Friday Dec 11th will be a Low Gross / Low Net Tournament.

Handicap Committee: No report as there was a scramble last month; everything is getting better

Treasurer’s Report – Income is down year to date – $4.1k which is a concern. Expenses were discussed and no one item is over budget. We are managing line items expenses well but need to look at ways to increase revenue. With a $7.5k budget deficit plus $4.1k YTD under revenue we should anticipate a 2015 year end $11.6k deficit. We are short on revenue and while the Club has adequate liquid assets, we can only sustain this trend another 3-4 years.
Membership – K. Miller, 377 regular members / 149 Associates. Budgeted for 390 / 160. We will now offer a $250 entry fee to include registration fee, 2015 & 2016 membership. We should discuss 2016 membership fee level at the Sept Board meeting.
Handicap Committee – S. Anderson, held a committee meeting this month. Reported there were six club member penalty rounds issued during the month of July / August to date. Tournament Committee has and will continue to issue modified handicaps for BMGC tournaments. Peer Review is critical for our success. Remember to post!
Tournaments –R. Moore, 2-Man Scramble this Friday and Sunday. September will have the Pasadena City Seniors – Sept 3&4 and The Criers on Sept 11 & 13. We need to update the Club & Class Brackets on the website. The Audit Committee was requested to develop a procedure for the Tournament Committee for administration of prize payout checks.
Rules – G. Baker, The right side of Fairway 18, Course #1 has decomposed granite (DG) lined by a wooden border. This wooden border is important because it designates the DG as Ground Under Repair. There are plans to run DG through the 18th fairway, 100 yards or so from the green. This is a path the leads to the Rose Bowl.
Gary Baker - The First Tee has put 44k students through their program. Teaching them Core Values and Life Skills. Two current First Tee of Pasadena students will participate in the Nature Valley Open at Pebble Beach - Lela DeJohn and Mason Chiu. The BMGC Board voted unanimously to donate to Lela and Mason $200 each towards their tournament expenses. We wish them the best of success!
SCGA – Art Longoria, SCGA is holding an Oak Quarry GC special $89 / 2 Players through Nov. 25th. See Art for details.

Greens Committee – Randy Gottlieb, Course is in very good shape considering 28% less water used and 36.8% cost savings compared to 2014. The turf removal project was not funded enough to provide for sand. But, additional DG and sand (November) to be filled throughout courses. The Chipping / practice area will be sodded. Treatment for trees project to begin. Aeration of Greens – Course #1 – Sept, Course #2 – Oct. Lakes will be cleaned up. October 10, Rose Bowl Soccer Game, USA vs. Mexico.

Pat Carrigan, BMGC member has qualified for the U.S. Senior Men’s Open at Del Paso CC in Sacramento. The club wishes Pat well and the Board will send him a letter to wish him success.

Treasurer’s Report – Income is down year to date – $5.5k which is a concern. Expenses were discussed and no one item is over budget. Team Play season is over and came in under budget. A few questions were asked and a discussion took place regarding the computer internet connect “sticks”. Since it was determined there is an occasional use, and not a necessity, a motion was passed to cancel the monthly fee / agreement. Motion was passed unanimously.
Additional memberships received this month total $700.
Membership – K. Miller, 369 regular members / 144 Associates. Budgeted for 390 / 160. We should push for New Membership – “Plus 1” - shake the bushes & invite Family, Friends & Associates for golf & lunch!
Handicap Committee – S. Anderson, met earlier this evening. Reported there were no club member penalty rounds issued during the month of May to date. Discussed a matter related to a member and the SCGA (closed discussion). Remember to post!
Out of Towner – R. Gottlieb on behalf of B. Baumann – 32 players at River Ridge GC on April 30th in Oxnard. The tournament was well organized and there was positive feedback. We should try to keep future Out of Towners to $50 or less.
Tournaments –R. Moore, Pasadena City Championship Update –To date $11k less in receipts. Expecting $2k additional. Will probably come in $8-9k less than last year. This year’s Tee Prizes will be a Pasadena City golf towel, shoe horn and golf balls. The AMGEN Bicycle tour will finish up on Sunday, circling the Rose Bowl five times. Foot traffic / golf carts will be held up momentarily.
SCGA – Art Longoria, SCGA is holding an Angels Night baseball game event on May 27. $80 per ticket, gathering behind 1st Base buffet 6:00 – 8:00 pm. See Art for details.

Pasadena City Championship – 37 Championship flight entries to date, 62 Net Flight entrants.

Old Business –
- The BMGC Christmas Party. A motion was made to accept Rob Moore’s Christmas Party Proposal. (Attached) To be held at the Brookside Clubhouse the Saturday following the shotgun start of the 2-Man Christmas Classic outing - Dec 12. A lengthy discussion was held with pros and cons of the existing and prosed format. Member fees, BMGC Expenses / Subsidies and attendance by the potential members and their wives were the main topics. The Motion was passed by a 5-3 margin of the board members present.

CHRISTMAS PARTY PROPOSAL This is an idea to change the Christmas Party from a Friday Dinner-Dance with awards presentation / gift give-away to a luncheon and awards only, on the first day right after play of the 2-day Christmas Classic. BROOKSIDE CHRISTMAS CLASSIC December 12 and 13, 2015 - December 12, Saturday, Course 2, 8:00 a.m., shotgun - December 13, Sunday, Course 1, 9:00 a.m., straight time - Lunch and awards presentation will be from 1:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. in the Mediterranean Room on Saturday, December 12. - Lunch can be provided by the Club for players and their wives. - Lunch will cost approximately $25.00 per person. We can charge each player the regular green fee or add $10.00 per player and the Club will pick up the rest. - Menu has a lot of options. We can have ribs/chicken with 3 salads and beans and corn on the cob or it can be changed to fit our budget. - We now have it reserved for 120 people, which at $25.00 per person would come to $3,000. - A savings of up to $2,000 for the Club, and more if we add $10.00 to the entry fee. - If we have 68 players for the event this year, plus wives, we could very well get 100 or more people to attend.

- BMGC must file a Form 990 tax return, even though we are a non-profit and pay no income tax (all income is paid to membership / cover expenses). Form 990T is no longer required due to investment Income below $1k. We have been audited by the IRS in the past.

Election Committee – E Kelly, 4 Board Positions open. Elections are now completed. 58 email votes cast plus Regular Meeting attendees. Results to be tabulated by Election Committee member, Dennis Becking and announced by the BMGC President at tonight’s Regular membership meeting.
Membership Report – K Miller 397 Regular / 170 Associates. 2014 Budget was 410 / 160.
2015 Membership Renewal applications mailed out in the beginning of November. Payment, especially for Team Play members, are due by Dec. 29th. 32 online renewals already processed.
A Motion was made to have a group of Board members look into the SCGA TPP Tournament Online Organizer (As opposed to the current LA Golf Club’s system). Motion passed unanimously. Group should take into consideration that the Pasadena City Championship is using the LA Golf Club system. It took time & effort to make this system work so any changes to BMGC Tournament website organizing should take this into consideration.

Ron Hansen’s Sept. 22, 2014 letter to the Board Secretary was read. Ron will resign from the Board effective Dec. 31, 2014. Ron’s resignation was accepted over many, many objections.
Membership Report – 389 Regular / 169 Associates. 2014 Budget was 410 / 160. 3 new regular members, 1 Associate & 1 Associate pending have registered after October, not included in this total.
2015 Membership Renewal notice to be mailed by the end of October.
Treasurers Report – budget deficit reduced by $2.4k. 2014 annual budget deficit now forecast to be $10.8k.
The 2015 Budget planning meeting will take place on 2nd Tuesday of December (Dec. 9th).

Treasurer’s Report – Income is down year to date – $5.5k which is a concern. Expenses were discussed and no one item is over budget. Team Play season is over and came in under budget. A few questions were asked and a discussion took place regarding the computer internet connect “sticks”. Since it was determined there is an occasional use, and not a necessity, a motion was passed to cancel the monthly fee / agreement. Motion was passed unanimously.
Additional memberships received this month total $700.
Membership – K. Miller, 369 regular members / 144 Associates. Budgeted for 390 / 160. We should push for New Membership – “Plus 1” - shake the bushes & invite Family, Friends & Associates for golf & lunch!
Handicap Committee – S. Anderson, met earlier this evening. Reported there were no club member penalty rounds issued during the month of May to date. Discussed a matter related to a member and the SCGA (closed discussion). Remember to post!
Out of Towner – R. Gottlieb on behalf of B. Baumann – 32 players at River Ridge GC on April 30th in Oxnard. The tournament was well organized and there was positive feedback. We should try to keep future Out of Towners to $50 or less.
Tournaments –R. Moore, Pasadena City Championship Update –To date $11k less in receipts. Expecting $2k additional. Will probably come in $8-9k less than last year. This year’s Tee Prizes will be a Pasadena City golf towel, shoe horn and golf balls. The AMGEN Bicycle tour will finish up on Sunday, circling the Rose Bowl five times. Foot traffic / golf carts will be held up momentarily.
SCGA – Art Longoria, SCGA is holding an Angels Night baseball game event on May 27. $80 per ticket, gathering behind 1st Base buffet 6:00 – 8:00 pm. See Art for details.

Bob Baumann report that he called about the ROSTER, nothing official concerning the cost, but we will have an additional cost of approximately $400 for mailing the ROSTER.

Ken Miller reported we have 396 Regular Members, and 164 Associates. Also that stamped envelopes will be available in the BMGC Mail Box in the Pro Shop for new members and new members are encouraged to email Ken Miller directly.

Art suggested that BMGC have and make use of separate/different checks from the Pasadena City Golf Championship and Pasadena Senior Golf Championship.

Rose Bowl Operating Company – Dave Sams, the ROBC & Pasadena City Council will hold a hearing for an Environmental Impact Study to consider expanding the annual Rose Bowl events from 12 to 21. This would include a 3-Day Music Festival which would utilize a significant area of the golf course for parking and stage events. The quality of the golf course will clearly be affected. More Damage, More Water, More Repairs. Who will pay for these repairs? The Golfers or the Parkers?

Tax Status (501-C-7) with IRS does not require a tax as long as revenue is membership generated and interest earned does not exceed $1k annually.
BMGC was audited twice by IRS and refilling was needed. Last IRS audit was 15 years ago.
Audit Committee – A. Longoria – not an “audit” but a financial review. A checklist was distributed to the BMGC President and Treasurer. If 80% is accomplished then the review result will be considered satisfactory.

Dave Sams, RBOC, gave a presentation on Turf Removal / Irrigation Project and Brookside GC. In order to reduce/ maintain future maintenance costs:
· Brookside still uses drinking water and this is extremely costly (an exhibit showed water expenses approaching $1 million annually)
· Will need to carve up 25 acres of the golf course’s turf (primarily in the rough / waste area)
· Must have an alternate water source by 2030
· 7 mile pipeline from Glendale (through Brookside to Huntington Gardens) – 50 year project
· The earliest this pipeline will reach Brookside will be 2017 – a $20 million project
· Turf removal will take place after the Pasadena City / Before UCLA Football
Rose Bowl – 19 events in 2014 / GC will be a parking lot
New Brookside Superintendent announced – Jesse Sigmund – will be invited to BMGC meeting.
Brookside Ambassador Phil Edwards addressed the membership on Slow Play. Ambassadors are volunteers for the American Golf Foundation.

Called to order – 6:04 PM
Present: Ron Hansen, Wayne Dockery, Randy Gottlieb, Ed Sayer, Gary Baker, Art Longoria, Rob Moore, Ken Miller, Ed Kelly

February 2014 Board Meeting Minutes approved, unanimous
Treasurer Report, W. Dockery - $10k deficit was planned yet we will be short $7.4k in income due to lower membership renewals at this time. Therefore a $17k deficit is projected. Additional renewals will be forthcoming so this $17k deficit should be reduced.
Under the revised by-laws, it was moved, seconded and approved to authorize the following board members to sign written financial documents for the club: Ron Hansen, Club President, Scott Anderson, First Vice President, Randy Gottlieb, Second Vice President, Wayne Dockery, Treasurer, and Rob Moore, Director of Major Tournaments.
Monthly Tournaments – March Shamble is full - more players wish to register so additional tee times have been arranged.
79th Pasadena City Championship, R. Moore – May 15-18. Tournament announcement by website & email. $175 per player.
Handicap Committee, R. Gottlieb – 2 Penalty Rounds issued for February Stableford. Tournament Scorecards are clearly stating to post scores before leaving the course and the message to players is getting across.
Team Play, R. Gottlieb – Season is over for the 3 BMGC teams. No playoff teams in quite some time L LA County Team Play season starts in September.
Membership, K. Miller – 382 Regular Members & 142 Associates – close to projected budget.
Entertainment – Roster Data base is ready for printing. B. Baumann has been asked to report back to Board on the status of the Roster.
Mid Year Out of Towner – It was recommended to continue with the Out of Towner schedule of 4 per year - 2 weekday, 2 weekend tournaments. (Handicap Committee designated all BMGC Out of Towner’s as Away, Non-Tournament posting). Course recommendations will be forwarded to B. Baumann.
SCGA, A. Longoria – Kings Night 3/26, Golf Fest 3/15&16. SCGA Magazine - Plus 4 Article on Gary Baker a must read.
SCGA Burbank Meeting – SCGA invited LA area clubs to participate and provide feedback. R. Hansen & G. Baker represented BMGC. Brookside was mentioned as a model to other clubs for their good working relationship with American Golf, Board Operations efficiency, addressing Financial Issues and our member fees as it relates to tournament funding.
A discussion took place at the Burbank meeting on the potential competition the SCGA has with local clubs by providing conflicting separate membership benefits.
Rules & Competition, G. Baker – An issue with the Brookside Scorecards needs to be addressed – Course #1, Hole 16 fence behind the green is a lateral hazard, not OB.
Website, E. Sayer – LA Golf offered to reduce our website fee by soliciting advertisers for our website with LA golf keeping the advertisement fee. A discussion took place and it was decided to take a wait & see approach. No further action is necessary at this time.
Other Business – An American Golf legal document which included the name of the BMGC club was reviewed and the board decided that no action was needed other than to retain the document in our records. E. Kelly to handle.
